The live performance Acts of Attention was staged throughout the opening reception of the 27th International Open, a juried exhibition of work by women and non-binary artists at Woman Made Gallery in Chicago.

Seated on the floor before a looped video of my earlier performance Lake Shore Cleaner, I silently sorted individual grains of sand from the shoreline of Lake Michigan into the shape of a spiral.

Rooted in themes of tending and repair, the sand grains served as both material and symbol of the continuous, repetitive labor women perform in response to cultural expectations.
