Arial Roots is an installation of live arrangements, paintings and sculpture. A collaboration between members of the Washington DC chapter of Ikebana International Sheila Advani, Diana Cull, Fay McLaren, Rosalie Ingenito and visual artist Kiki McGrath. Ikebana is the Japanese art of arranging flowers. It is also a meditative discipline, and having studied the form for several years, I wanted to explore ways in which painting and sculpture could respond to this ritualized practice and living tradition.
